Geography Of Hyderabad District, Telangana The district of Hyderabad, situated on the Deccan plateau, lies at an altitude of 217 square kilometres, occupying an area of 217 square kilometres. Most of the area has a rocky terrain and some areas are hilly. Crops are commonly grown in the surrounding paddy fields. Hyderabad is the 5th largest city in India. It has twin cities Viz., Hyderabad and Secunderabad with its suburbs extending upto 16 miles. The Hyderabad city is situated in 1o 11` of the Northern Longitude and 78o 27` of the Eastern Longitude. 1778` above MSL and on grey and Pink Granites among the world`s oldest. The highest point in the city is Banjara Hills. The contour level falls gradually from west to east creating almost a through near the Musi River which runs through the city. This natural feature has facilitated water supply by gravity.

The climate of Hyderabad remains fairly warm through most parts of the year and do not receive much rainfall in the monsoon. With the onset of winters in North and central parts of India, temperatures marginally come down in the months of December and January and the nights become quite cool in and around the Hyderabad city. During the summer months, the mercury goes as high as 42 degree Celsius while in winters the minimum temperature may come down to as low as 12 degree Celsius. June to November are the months of monsoons, accompanied by rains. During the Monsoons also the temperature goes down at times. Thus, for most parts of the year the weather and climate of Hyderabad remains fairly moderate the city mat be visited anytime in the year but the best season to visit Hyderabad is between October-February.

The major languages spoken here are the Urdu language, Hindi language, Telugu and English and about 50% of the population consists of Muslims; there are Hindus and Sikhs also. Muslims constitute about 40% of the population, making Hyderabad`s Muslim community the largest in Telangana. Muslims have substantial presence across the city and are predominant in and around Old City. Christians constitute a small amount of the city`s population. Churches are located across the city and the popular ones are in Abid and Secunderabad areas.

The Non-Agriculture sector is the basis of the economy of the district covering 98.09 percent of the total Geographical area of the district is put to Non-Agricultural uses indicating predominance of non-agricultural activities in the district. Hyderabad is known as the city of pearls, lakes and, lately, for its IT companies. Products such as silverware, saris, Nirmal and Kalamkari paintings and artifacts, unique Bidri handcrafted items, lacquer bangles studded with stones, silk ware, cotton ware and handloom-based clothing materials are made and traded through the city for centuries. Hyderabad is also a major centre for pharmaceuticals with companies such as Dr. Reddy`s Laboratories, Matrix Laboratories, Hetero Drugs Limited, Divis Labs, Aurobindo Pharma Limited, Lee Pharma and Vimta Labs being housed in the city. The prime exports of the region are Basmati rice and spices, medical transcription and oil exports.
